It is said that Nature abhors a vacuum. It is my observation that Nature abhors the works of man and that it is Nature's Way to destroy them.
All one has to do is observe the grass and weeds growing in the cracks of the concrete and pavement during a walk around the neighborhood.
In the Mid-Atlantic where I grew up, the cycle of winter and spring freezes and thaws would tear apart the interstates in short order without the constant intervention of various departments of transportation.
How long would the Golden Gate Bridge stand if untended? How long before sun and heat, rain and cold, wind and salt air would breakdown the paint and eat away the steel? A few hundred years is the blink of an eye in the life of a planet.
Nature creates wonderful abstracts in it's relentless battle.
